Bean Anthracnose
This fungal disease of beans overwinters in infected plant debris in the soil. The spores get splashed onto bean pods, stems, and leaves where they germinate and infect the plant tissues. Infections on the pods look like reddish brown blotches. Stem and leaf infections are more difficult to recognize.
Control: Clean up crop debris. Mulch to avoid splashing soil onto the plants when watering. Fungicides are available.
