See here for Frequently Asked Questions about the online Master Gardener class.

Course Fee and Structure:
The registration fee for this course is $300.00 per person. This includes a South Carolina Master Gardener manual and access to our online resources. Please do NOT purchase a manual separately as one will be sent to you. All participants who successfully complete the course requirements will receive a certificate in "Home Horticulture". To receive certification as a Master Gardener requires additional work -- passing a statewide exam and fulfillment of the volunteer service component of the program. If you wish to go on to receive Master Gardener certification, then let your instructor know. They will make sure that you're put in contact with the appropriate Extension agent to connect you with our existing volunteer networks.

The course is organized in modules that relate to each of the topics presented in the SC Master Gardener manual.
Modules contain relevant reading, instruction (via expert videos), discussion, quizzes and activities you can do around your home. You will receive a copy of the South Carolina Master Gardener manual before the start of the course.

A new module is released each week of the twelve week program and remains open until the end of the course. Each module requires about six hours to complete and there are twelve modules for a total commitment of 72 hours of course time. The entire course is run through "Moodle", an online course management system. At least a basic level of computer skills are needed to complete the course.

Course Dates
Though the course officially begins on April 2nd and ends on June 28th, though all modules will remain open until July 2nd, 2012. During this time, you may want to peruse the content for anything you may have missed or want to learn at more depth. This is done on your own and no instructor will be present to assist you during this extra time period.

Congratulations on taking the first step to learn about gardening around your home! We appreciate your interest in this program designed to create a corps of volunteers working within their communities to provide education, outreach and service dedicated to gardening. Remember, in order to receive Master Gardener certification, you'll need to finish the training and provide 40 hours of volunteer service per year.  We think you'll find a meaningful connection with people and gardening as you complete the program.
