About the Course

Mapping is an important tool for the management of natural resources. The use of GPS and mapping software produces maps that provide landowners and managers with a starting point for creating a management plan. This workshop will introduce participants to GPS and software for creating simple maps. The primary software use for mapping will be Google Earth, a free program available on the internet. This program can provide the natural resource manager with a powerful set of mapping tools at no cost. At the end of the day you will have hands-on experience with collecting GPS data, downloading it into Google Earth, and creating maps suitable for presentation to a landowner. Basic computer and internet use skills are assumed in this class.
