Greenwood Clemson Extension / Master Gardeners Mall Office
| Name | Stephen Odom, Jr. | | Situation | The Greenwood Clemson Extension / Master Gardeners Mall office was established seven years ago to increase the visibility of the Cooperative Extension Service in Greenwood county. It is also used to provide additional training to individuals who have taken the "master gardener" course. This office is a partnership with the "Greenwood Mall". The Mall allows Extension to use space for "free". Greenwood Parks and Trails Foundation is co-located with Extension and assists in paying utilities. | | Response | The Extension / Masters Gardeners office has been an asset to the the Greenwood community. Many people who would not visit an Extension office now stop by to get questions answered about their lawns, vegetables, flowers, shrubs and other problems while they are shopping or taking their daily walk in the mall. We have had many positive comments about the mall office. We have also seen an increase in senior citizens using Extension services. Five Master Gardeners from the 05' fall class are
now getting additional training by volunteering at this office. | | Impact | The arrangement with the Mall has had a postive impact for the Mall in that it encouages more people to the mall which is struggling to survive. It has been postive for Extension in that it provides more visibility and opportunties for Extension to serve the public. It is also a wonderful tool for master gardeners interns to work and learn from "trained" Extension agents in answering questions (where to find the answers to questions i.e. books, computer etc.) |
