Will Hiott is PhD student in Digital History. He specializes in late eighteenth and early nineteenth century history of the United States and particularly the American South. His current research areas include indigenous Native Americans, specifically the Cherokee, Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations, the Revolutionary War in the Southern Colonies, and antebellum plantation history and African American studies.

He received his B.A. from the University of South Carolina and his M.A. in Public History from the University of South Carolina. His master’s thesis was entitled "New Deal Resettlement in South Carolina." His professional career has been in Public History, Historic Preservation, Historic Site Interpretation and Museum Management. Will currently serves as the Executive Director & Chief Curator for the Department of Historic Properties at Clemson University. Will authored two chapters in the book on the Life and Legacy of Thomas Green Clemson on Thomas Clemson’s Fort Hill Years and Art Collection, Clemson University Press. He also authored selections in the South Carolina Encyclopedia. Will was project historian for the Fort Hill Historical American Building Survey (HABS) Documentation Project and Hopewell Plantation HABS Documentation Project.

Will’s teaching experience has included serving as an Adjunct Instructor of History at Clemson University where he was the instructor of record for History 2000 Fort Hill Internship and was mentor for Creative Inquiry on the Historical and Cultural Resources of the Clemson Experimental Forest. He also completed coursework towards a M.A.T. in Social Studies Education at the University of South Carolina with master’s plus thirty teaching certificate.
