Clemson Extension Assists Williamsburg County

Kirven | | Situation | Every three years all of South Carolina’s First Steps to School Readiness Programs are required to develop a comprehensive plan to provide and/or support high quality programming that sustains families and ensures their children will be ready for school. The plan must identify the needs of the children and their families in the county, the assets and resources available, establish measurable goals and objectives, and explain how services are to be delivered. The process is a systematic method through which a First Steps to School Readiness Partnership agrees on priorities that are essential to its mission. The process raises a sequence of questions which help examine past experiences, test old assumptions, gather and incorporate new information about the present, and anticipate the future environment.
| | Response | Clemson Extension was invited by Williamsburg County First Steps to School Readiness Partnership Board to facilitate their strategic planning process. This included guiding the Board through revisiting their mission and vision statements, addressing the county’s needs and resources, setting priorities, developing measurable outcomes and indicators for each priority, summarizing the strategy, identifying gap(s) and related goal(s), developing methods to identify service recipients, identifying collaborating partners and identifying service coordination and integration. | | Impact | This strategic plan will assist the partnership and the community in choosing how best to respond to an ever-changing environment in the face of changing needs and funding availability.
Additionally, the plan will sharpen the partnership’s focus so that all its resources are optimally utilized in its efforts to fulfill its mission. Finally, the plan will guide the partnership in continually looking at how the programs and strategies fit with the vision and mission and vice versa.
