Pesticide Training Offers Applicators Credit Hours and Product Update
| Name | Mark Arena | | Situation | Private pesticide applicators have previously voiced and continue to voice concerns about staying abreast of the latest pesticides, EPA regulations, and license requirements. Without being informed about the changes in chemistry, new products, new regulations and keeping their licenses valid, applicators are in jeopardy of losing their ability to protect agricultural crops and investments.
| | Response | Berkeley County Agent and Pesticide Coordinator for Berkeley County developed and delivered a program to meet these concerns. On November 11, 2003, over 30 participants attended a 3-hour interactive presentation that provided a comprehensive update on the "present and future of pesticides." | | Impact | After participating in the program, all participants indicated through a survey that they had increased their knowledge and understanding of pesticides. Also, they had received the required continuing education hours to maintain their pesticide license for the next license period. This program fulfilled all participants’ personal and required pesticide needs. Thus, allowing them to make better decisions regarding pesticide purchases and protect their crops in order to produce a profitable year.
