Core and Category 3 Turf and Ornamental Study Course
| Name | Bruce Johnson | | Situation | South Carolina has buckled down on its laws concerning the application of pesticides. Many landscape companies have employees who must now become commercial pesticide license holders. It is important to the environment that all pesticide license holders know and
understand the proper procedures in handling pesticides and the proper disposal of pesticide residue and their containers. A program was held to help prepare individuals who were planning to take the Core Exam and Category 3 Exam.
| | Response | A Core and Category 3 Turf and Ornamentals Study Course was held at the Johnny M. Shelley Agriculture Facility on January 29, 2008. This training was held in cooperation with the Agriculture Agent and the Horticulture Agent in Horry County. This was a day-long class, and there was a $50.00 registration fee plus a cost of $40.00 for study material. Lunch was provided for all participants. | | Impact | There were 17 participants in this class and all indicated that they felt better prepared to take the Core Exam and Category 3 Exam after attending this training. Everyone increased their knowledge of pesticide safety and environmental protection. All participants indicated they would adopt changes to help protect our environment and would recommend this program to friends and neighbors. |
