Organization

Clemson University, its faculty, staff and students comprise a globally engaged community and the Office of Global Engagement supports overall campus internationalization through the provision of operational and administrative support. Our three constituent offices are Global Partnerships & Initiatives, International Services, and Clemson Abroad.

Mission and Goals

The mission of the Office of Global Engagement is to coordinate and articulate global initiatives, programs and services that prepare students for careers in the new economy, support faculty efforts to internationalize the institutional curriculum, increase the university’s competitiveness in the international research arena, and challenge students to think deeply about current issues within a global context.

Goals
Through key global partnerships and other initiatives, our goals are to:

  • Increase the number of students involved in international study, internships, service learning, and research.
  • Provide vision, training, and resources for the internationalization of the institution’s curriculum
  • Recruit and retain promising students and faculty to study and teach at Clemson.
  • Ensure the development of an internationally competitive and globally aware work force.
  • Promote a campus environment that values diversity and global awareness.
  • Support international research and economic development.

    The Associate Provost of Global Engagement serves as the senior international officer of the university and reports directly to the Provost for Academic Affairs. The office of the Associate Provost supports overall campus internationalization and works with Clemson faculty and staff across the colleges and departments to develop strategic global initiatives.

I also provide administrative support to the Internationalization Advisory Council, International Programs Coordination Committee, as well as financial management for the vice provost, recruitment, and staff and student personnel.

    What can I do for you: Tell you if your Authorization for Foreign Travel has been approved, let you know if your expense report has been processed, instruct you with travel advance or a Pay Card (preloaded debit card) for study abroad trips, tell you if vendor bills have been paid, answer general accounts payable questions, inform you about IDO’s charges for visas (permits to enter the U.S.), issue refunds to students for application fees, & answer other questions relating to expenses for study abroad programs.

    Global Partnerships & Initiatives connects Clemson University in partnership and collaboration with institutions, corporations and organizations from all over the globe. The office works to enhance the University’s global engagement through the development of activities, programs, exchanges and events that foster global awareness, knowledge and understanding among faculty, staff, and students.

  • International Services

    International Services, contained within the Office of Global Engagement, provides a variety of services to assist the international students, scholars, faculty, and staff of Clemson University.

    International Services provides the following to international students and scholars:

    • Advises international students, scholars, and their dependents, and University departments on compliance with U.S. immigration laws and regulations related to F and J visa categories.
    • Verifies, tracks, and submits visa status notification through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), as required by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
    • Recommends and approves immigration benefits such as Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), and Academic Training.
    • Processes I-20’s, DS-2019’s, SEVIS registration, travel signatures, etc.
    • Conducts workshops on OPT, CPT, and other important topics as needed.
    • Coordinates Orientation for new international students and scholars.
    • Advises on community resources, cultural adjustment to U.S., personal support, and academic concerns, etc.

    International Services provides the following to international faculty, scholars, and staff:

    • Offers guidance on U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policies and procedures for employing foreign nationals to ensure compliance with U.S. immigration laws and regulations.
    • Prepares and files employment-based, non-immigrant, H-1B petitions with USCIS on behalf of Clemson University.
    • Coordinates employment-based, immigrant petitions with external immigration attorneys retained by Clemson University, for eligible Clemson faculty, scholars, and staff.

  • Study Abroad

    Study Abroad provides operational support to student engagement programs outside of the US, working with faculty to develop opportunities for overseas programs and helping to find programs appropriate to their academic and career goals.

    What can I do for you: I can help faculty design, develop and deliver study abroad programs in collaboration with your college liaison. I also work with faculty to enhance existing programs and discuss curricular integration/mapping, fiscal issues and administrative support. For administrative units, I am here to provide information on Clemson Abroad and address any policy or strategic planning questions. I help students resolve questions related to health, safety and risk management and also work with your parents to address questions which remain unresolved from our office staff.

In addition, as the ADEM, I oversee processes related to a students’ enrollment in Clemson Abroad programs. This includes recruitment activities, application process, course registration, billing and payment procedures, and grade reporting.

    What can I do for you: I am the primary point of contact for Clemson students participating in Exchange programs abroad (from initial advising to return). I am also the primary coordinator for incoming international Exchange students, as well as other non-degree undergraduate international students. Related to all the above, I am the point of contact for both students and administrative units regarding Exchange program admission, enrollment, financial aid, housing, insurance, orientation, etc. I can also help faculty and staff with the creation, maintenance, marketing and facilitation of Exchange programs, including 2 + 2 models.
