About Global Engagement

The main office of the Office of Global Engagement (OGE) is located on the 3rd floor of E-Martin Hall just behind Sikes Hall, Clemson’s main administration building.

OGE is headed by Dr. Sharon Nagy, Associate Provost for Global Engagement. The Office includes four (4) constituent offices: Pam Hendrix Center for Education Abroad, Global Partnerships & Initiatives, International Services and English Language Programs.

  • Office of the Associate Provost

    The Associate Provost of Global Engagement serves as the senior international officer of the university and reports directly to the Provost for Academic Affairs. The office of the Associate Provost supports overall campus internationalization and works with Clemson faculty and staff across the colleges and departments to develop strategic global initiatives.

    Who should contact me: Academic and Administrative Colleagues with questions about supporting their faculty, staff or students with English language skills.  Departmental leaders who have questions about their International Teaching Assistants taking a certifying exam.  Students who want to learn more about teaching English, who want assistance with English skills or editing, or who want to engage with our international students on campus and off.  Community members who would like to collaborate. 
    What can I do for you: I can help you decide what English services your students need and set up a schedule of coaching.  I can help students get papers published, write dissertations, and apply for grants through coaching and editing.  I can help students and community members interested in teaching English get involved by volunteering or participating in the TEFL Program.  I can collaborate with you to build workshops, seminars, orientation and trainings specific to your department or college.  I can tell you if your TA who uses English as a second language needs to be tested or is set to teach!

  • International Services

    International Services, contained within the Office of Global Engagement, provides a variety of services to assist the international students, scholars, faculty, and staff of Clemson University.

    International Services provides the following to international students and scholars:

    • Advises international students, scholars, and their dependents, and University departments on compliance with U.S. immigration laws and regulations related to F and J visa categories.
    • Verifies, tracks, and submits visa status notification through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), as required by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
    • Recommends and approves immigration benefits such as Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), and Academic Training.
    • Processes I-20’s, DS-2019’s, SEVIS registration, travel signatures, etc.
    • Conducts workshops on OPT, CPT, and other important topics as needed.
    • Coordinates Orientation for new international students and scholars.
    • Advises on community resources, cultural adjustment to U.S., personal support, and academic concerns, etc.

    International Services provides the following to international faculty, scholars, and staff:

    • Offers guidance on U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policies and procedures for employing foreign nationals to ensure compliance with U.S. immigration laws and regulations.
    • Prepares and files employment-based, non-immigrant, H-1B petitions with USCIS on behalf of Clemson University.
    • Coordinates employment-based, immigrant petitions with external immigration attorneys retained by Clemson University, for eligible Clemson faculty, scholars, and staff.

    Study Abroad provides operational support to student engagement programs outside of the US, working with faculty to develop opportunities for overseas programs and helping to find programs appropriate to their academic and career goals.
