Parks and protected areas in the 21st century face a wide array of social, ecological and economic challenges. To meet these challenges, parks, whether local, national or global, must be thought of as part of a complex system and be managed from an interdisciplinary perspective. Clemson University’s parks, recreation and tourism management department has appointed Wayne Freimund as chair of the department. Freimund comes from the University of Montana, where he served as interim dean and professor of parks and protected area management in the W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation.
