Statement of Support

The Clemson University Commission on Latino Affairs, The Clemson University Women’s Commission, Commission on Accessibility, Commission on the Black Experience, LGBTQ Commission, and the Commission on Veterans stand in solidarity in condemning violence and racism towards Black people and all People of Color. The Commissions recognize the hurt and anger that many in the Clemson community are feeling after the tragic events across the nation. This pain serves as reminder of the continuing systemic and institutional racism that afflicts our society. Silence is unacceptable during this time. We stand together to support justice. There is no place for racism, brutality, and hatred at Clemson University. George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis, which came two months after a Louisville police officer fatally shot Breonna Taylor, a 26-year old EMT, during a raid of her apartment, are emblematic of the brutality and violence that deeply divides this nation. It is through this that we seek strength in the guiding principles from theDivision of Community, Engagement, Belonging and Access that “We aim to bring together our community to understand and appreciate the significance of a sense of belonging, which is paramount in our workplace, institution and daily lives—embracing inclusive excellence and promoting an environment where everyone feels empowered and valued to contribute their unique perspectives.” Our work lies in building community and the values of the Clemson Family. We are united in our work to build a better place for all our students, faculty, and staff at Clemson University.
