Management Overview

What is wild hog management?

Management is an important aspect of mitigating damage caused by wild hogs in South Carolina. Control refers to the ways of reducing the damage caused by hogs. Control can be through lethal means -like hunting - or non-lethal means - like exclusion.

While many methods exist for mitigating damage caused by hogs, trapping is considered the most effective. There are many trap types and techniques to consider, just choose the one that fits your needs. Traps can be built or bought.

Management Options

Hunting

Hunting is one way to remove a wild hog directly.  Be sure to consult local laws and guidelines when hunting wild hogs. This method is usually employed when the animals are trap-shy or there is a solitary animal.
