Dr. Charlotte Branyon is a dedicated lecturer in the School of Nursing, bringing over 19 years of nursing experience in both Acute and Primary Care. She earned her BS in Nursing from Clemson University in 2005, her MS in Family Nursing Practice in 2010, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2022. Her research focuses on mental health in primary care and nursing students, community health, social determinants of health and health disparities, and the integration of technology in nursing education and practice. Dr. Branyon teaches across the ASD, BSA, FNP, and DNP programs, bringing her expertise to multiple levels of nursing education. Currently, she serves on the Sigma Theta Tau Honors Society Board, the School of Nursing Scholarship and Awards Committee and the MSN/DNP Acceptance Committee. Additionally, she mentors a Creative Inquiry research team and maintains an active clinical practice as Nurse Practitioner. Dr. Branyon was recently awarded the Palmetto Gold Award for excellence in nursing practice and commitment to the nursing profession.

How their research is transforming health care
Dr. Branyon’s research consists of mental health, community health, social determinants of health and health disparities, and the integration of technology in nursing education and practice. Her work on mental health focuses on screening for anxiety, depression and stress among nursing students and in primary care, leading to a qualitative study on nursing student mental health, and the creation of meditation rooms to support student well-being. Dr. Branyon’s focus on technology in nursing has led to multiple presentations and grant applications exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, and digital innovation into nursing education and clinical practice. Additionally, Dr. Branyon’s work on community health, particularly social determinants of health and health disparities, has led to collaborations with community partners on service learning-projects and presentations aimed at addressing healthcare disparities. Currently, Dr. Branyon is involved in grants proposals incorporating Virtual Reality and telepresence robotics at Prisma Health. These projects aim to enhance end-of-life transition support for caregivers, and improve patient discharge education through telehealth.
