About

Megan Pate is an Assistant Professor at Clemson University School of Nursing (College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences) and currently serves as the Collaborative Clinical and Research Liaison for the Center for Research on Health Disparities. Dr. Pate is a 2013 (BS) and 2018 (MS) graduate of Clemson University School of Nursing and a 2023 (MS) and 2024 (PhD) graduate of Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. She is a Certified Nurse Educator through the National League for Nursing and has over a decade of experience in cardiovascular nursing. While at Emory University, Dr. Pate served as the President of Laney Graduate Student Council (2022-2023) and received funding for her first two years of study via the National Institute of Nursing Research’s T32 Nurse Scientist Training Grant (2T32NR012715). Her dissertation research was inspired by her work as a cardiovascular nurse in the upstate of South Carolina and was conducted at multiple heart failure clinics across Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union counties (affiliated with Spartanburg Medical Center). Currently, Dr. Pate is the Vice President/President-Elect for the Gamma Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and was recently elected to serve on Clemson University Faculty Senate.

How their research is transforming health care

Dr. Pate is an emerging nurse scholar with primary research interests in cardiovascular disease, rural health, mental health, and palliative care. She has presented at multiple domestic and international venues including American Heart Association Scientific Sessions, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing’s International Nursing Research Congress and Biennial Convention, and Southern Nursing Research Society’s Annual Conference. Dr. Pate currently serves as the Collaborative Clinical and Research Liaison for the Center for Research on Health Disparities at Clemson University, and her most recent work is focused on evaluating cardiovascular disease risk in rural settings. Combining her expertise as a researcher, registered nurse, and nurse educator, she aims to pursue collaborative opportunities throughout the upstate of South Carolina and beyond to promote optimal health outcomes for patients and their families.
