Deep Orange: The Future of Automotive Innovation

Deep Orange is a cutting-edge vehicle prototype program at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research. Its pioneering education, research and industry collaboration serve as the core components of the graduate degree program in automotive engineering.

The 24-month program implements the “engineering studio” approach to teaching by immersing students in the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) setting.

DEEP ORANGE BACKGROUND

Deep Orange is a one-of-a-kind rapid vehicle prototype program within Clemson University’s Department of Automotive Engineering that immerses graduate students into the world of an OEM or supplier. An elite team of students work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary faculty and industry partners to produce a purpose-built concept vehicle over a two-year period. Deep Orange projects integrate breakthrough product innovations and new processes, providing automotive engineering students with hands-on experience in vehicle design, engineering, prototyping and production from the time they enroll until graduation.

Deep Orange sponsors include BMW, ExxonMobil, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Honda R&D Americas, Mazda, MINI, Toyota, and the United States Army among dozens of other sponsors.
