The objective of the Deep Orange 6 program is to develop a blank-sheet, youth-oriented vehicle concept with a targeted U.S. market introduction of 2020, catering equally to both young males and females. A focal point of the project is on the utility vehicle aspects with the purpose of understanding what future active young people living in urban settings need in a utility/activity vehicle.

A focal point of the Deep Orange 6 vehicle prototype program will be the utility/activity aspects of the vehicle with the purpose of creating a better understanding what future active young consumers need in a utility/activity vehicle (such as pickup-trucks, sports utility vehicles or crossover vehicles.) The anticipated market introduction date in 2020.

Personal Urban Mobility Concept

Born 1995 and later, Gen Z is society’s first true “digital natives”. Constant multi-tasking and connectedness blurs the lines of work and life. The ability to work, study, play and relax whenever and whenever demands transportation to supplement life’s experiences beyond traveling from A to B. The vehicle is targeted for introduction to the U.S. market in 2020, catering equally to both males and females.

4ALL seating

4ALL

A low, completely flat interior floor with nesting/removable seats to allow adaptation of the reconfigurable interior for a multitude of activities-ranging from moving cargo to having a meeting inside of an entrepreneur’s vehicle used as a mobile office. This was achieved by a space-efficient and compact packaging concept for the electrified powertrain architecture.

A predominant Gen Z characteristic is the need for personalization, where one has the ability to modify the product to both seamlessly integrate with and optimize their lifestyle. Since the “making experience” is vital, the vehicle enables owners and users to create a personalized environment to support activities and unique aesthetic preferences. Owners can participate in a community that develops, shares, and reviews bSPOKE items.

DO6 carGo feature

carGO

Replaceable “snaps” and “tracks” in the rear cargo zone, with universal, simple-to-use interfaces, open up limitless configurations for utility features.

DO6 mPower feature

mPOWER

With Gen Z’s affinity for multi-functional devices, the Deep Orange 6 vehicle was designed to be more than simply a method of transportation from A to B. The electric powertrain allows the vehicle to exist as a mobile power source with 120v AC receptacles inside and outside with the ability to power consumer electronics.

FROM CONCEPT TO COMPLETION

As part of the graduate automotive engineering program at CU-ICAR, students are given the unique opportunity to create and build a concept vehicle. The project showcases advanced technologies and provides students an opportunity to work directly with automotive industry partners and experience all phases of the product development process.
