JEFF HOLLIDAY is a Lab Technologist IV and Machine Shop Manager in the Machining and Technical Services' Machine Shop. He regularly consults with faculty, students, and staff to help them achieve their research goals.

PROJECTS

LIGNIN PROJECT: Machined components for the Lignin project, which examined how a waste byproduct from the paper manufacturing industry could be converted into a useable source of energy - Dr. Mark Thies, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

HYDROGEN FUEL RESEARCH: Machined micro metering valves, tees and other fittings from Tantalum for hydrogen fuel research - Dr. Mark Thies, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

PHOTONIC CRYSTAL RESEARCH: Machined various components and silver liners that went into autoclave for photonic crystal research - Dr. Joseph Kolis, Chemistry

SENIOR DESIGN COMPONENTS: Designed and machined various bioengineering senior design projects, including knee replacement, hip stem replacement, and heart valve parts - Dr. John Desjardins, Bioengineering

INVENTORY LOGBOOK: Created an inventory log book that has pictures of MTS machinery and a map with each machine's location, which has reduced the amount of time for the inventory walk-thru - Machining and Technical Services

  • Tool and Die Making, jigs and fixtures design
  • Experience with precision manual equipment, holding tolerances to .0002"
  • Skilled in the programming and operation of CNC lathe, CNC mill, manual lathe, surface grinder, heat-treating furnaces, and EDM
  • Consults with faculty and students in design changes and machining practices
  • Design part models using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
