Workshop Information

Chainsaw Safety and Handling Workshop

The Chainsaw Safety and Handling Workshop provides hands-on instruction focused on safe chainsaw operations when working with trees and logs on the ground. Participants learn about personal protective equipment (PPE), chainsaw safety features, common injuries, and proper handling techniques, followed by practical cutting exercises that include cutting from above, below, and bore cutting. The workshop addresses how stresses within logs, such as tension and compression, affect cutting behavior and demonstrates safe techniques for managing hazardous situations, including cutting spring poles. Basic chainsaw maintenance and sharpening are also discussed to support safe and efficient operation in the field. This full-day workshop typically runs from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm, and participants receive a certificate of completion at the end of the day.

Tree Felling Workshop

The Tree Felling Workshop focuses on teaching safe and effective directional tree felling using the open‑face felling technique. Participants are introduced to a structured five‑step felling plan and the use of trigger wood to improve control and safety during felling operations. Hands‑on practice is provided in a controlled setting using short vertical logs, allowing participants to safely learn and refine proper felling cuts. The workshop also includes demonstrations of cutting techniques for small forward‑ and backward‑leaning trees, followed by a full tree felling demonstration that applies the complete five‑step felling plan from assessment through execution. This full‑day workshop typically runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and participants receive a certificate of completion at the end of the day.
