Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (amending the Higher Education Act of 1965) is a federal gender equity law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities that receive federal funding. Sexual harassment, which includes sexual violence and other forms of nonconsensual sexual misconduct, is a form of sex discrimination and is prohibited under this law.

Clemson University is committed to creating and continuously fostering a caring community based on the core values of integrity, honesty and respect. Sexual discrimination which includes sexual harassment, sexual violence, stalking, domestic and/or relationship violence is unacceptable and has no place in Clemson’s community. Consistent with its Title IX obligation, the University prohibits discrimination, including sexual and gender-based harassment and violence in all of its programs and activities, including academics, employment, athletics, and other extracurricular activities.

Clemson University promotes a family-friendly work and study environment for mothers and their infants. As a part of Clemson’s goal to provide employees, student workers and students with work/life balance, the University strives to offer clean, private space for new mothers to nurse and/or express breastmilk and flexible opportunities to do so during the work/school day.

The Clemson Lactation Network is a combination of:

• Dedicated wellness/lactation rooms
• Public spaces where one might be able to express milk
• Reservable space for you to express milk (e.g., conference room)
• Space volunteered by individuals

Clemson University has several dedicated wellness/lactation rooms available: Sullivan Center, Cooper Library, Poole Agriculture Center, Advanced Materials Research Lab, Littlejohn, Watt Family Innovation Center.

The Clemson University Early Childhood Education Center opened in August 2020, and accommodates 143 children ranging in age from 6 weeks to 5 years. Upon opening, the center will work toward accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Bright Horizons, a national child care provider, has been chosen to operate the day-to-day functions of the center.

The Provost's Caregiver Support Task Force has updated its list of resources and is reminding faculty and staff about its two virtual support communities.

The Task Force Caregiver Resources List includes detailed information about childcare, preschool and afterschool, eldercare and tutoring programs in Pickens, Oconee, Anderson and Greenville counties. Accessing the document requires readers to use DUO’s two-factor authentication.

The Task Force also created two virtual caregiver communities, one for faculty in Canvas and another for staff in Teams. These are spaces for Clemson University faculty and staff caregivers to interact, share resources and support one another. Faculty and staff members interested in joining a community should email clemsoncaregivers@clemson.edu to be added.

Women are increasingly stepping up to leadership roles in fields as diverse as politics, education, business, health policy, medicine, the arts and the sciences. A major in women’s leadership will help you understand the challenges and opportunities women face, locally and globally, and give you the knowledge and skills you need to succeed wherever your interests lie.

The major is designed to work well as a stand alone major or as a second major. All students in the program will develop an individualized course of study tailored to their interests and career goals.

Our purpose is to enable women alumni and friends to remain involved and connected to Clemson. The Council was created to provide quality programs and services for Clemson alumna, students and friends.
