Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987.
2021 Women's Celebration Month Events
In celebration of Women’s History Month 2021, which took place from Monday, March 1-Wednesday, March 31, 2021, Clemson University hosted a series of events and activities.
The 2021 Women’s Celebration Month Planning Committee was co-chaired by Akiebia Littlejohn-Hicks and Katie Thurson.
Keynote: Black Female Founders in Clemson History, from Africa to America: Call Their Names with Dr. Rhondda Thomas
Calhoun Lemon Professor of Literature Dr. Rhondda Thomas delivered a keynote address to kick off Women’s Celebration Month. With the theme of Women’s Celebration Month being “Embracing Intersectionality" Dr. Thomas’ keynote highlighted the experiences of Black women in Clemson’s history.
Feminist Fridays
The Women’s Commission hosted a different commission or organization each week to engage in thoughtful conversation about gender and intersecting identities.

Writing Summit & Symposium
As part of Women’s Celebration Month, the WCM Planning Committee (along with the Women’s Commission & The Gantt Center) hosted a Writing Summit & Symposium for students, faculty, and staff here at Clemson, focused on the theme of Embracing Intersectionality.
T-Shirt Design Competition
To honor Women’s History Month, Clemson’s Commission on Women hosted a T-shirt design competition to celebrate the year’s theme, “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced.” Three designs were selected
