Maymester in New York City

The "Gateways to World Markets" course provides students with recognition and appreciation of the role marketing plays in the effective management of today's organizations. Emphasis is placed on active learning through presentations by industry professionals in New York City (NYC) and interaction with them. Students examine components comprising the marketing function in these organizations. More importantly, students improve their understanding of how changing environmental forces affect business/marketing decisions as well as how marketing decisions are impacted by and/or impact other functional areas within the organization. Students also look for marketing insights gathered from the multitude of marketing activities (such as the spectaculars in Times Square, fashion marketing and activities on the streets or in small establishments that also vie for the consumer's mindshare) while in New York City.

The Gateways class has resulted in internships and/or full-time jobs with companies such as Ogilvy & Mather, JetBlue, American Express, Sports Illustrated, MXM and Ralph Lauren. Other examples of organizations visited include Google, PepsiCo, Macy's, the New York Yankees, IBM, the Broadway League, Chobani and L'Oreal.

European Perspectives on Marketing (Study-Abroad)

The European Perspectives on Marketing study-abroad program allows students to visit London and Paris to interact with multinational companies and trade organizations, experiences that cannot be replicated on Clemson's campus. The United Kingdom and France are international business hubs; 40% of the world's largest companies have headquarters in London, and the Paris region has the fifth-largest GDP in the world. In addition to meeting with businesses, students will have time to explore the many museums, theatres, restaurants, neighborhoods and other sights in these culturally and historically rich cities. Visiting London and Paris allows students to experience multiple distinct cultures and business environments.

Easy transportation into, out of, between and within the cities allows students to make the most of this 13-day program, as they earn credit for MKT 4270 (International Marketing). For information about upcoming programs, including travel dates, the application process, course requirements and costs, contact Lisa Papenfus.
