Honoring excellence in research, teaching and service

The College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences comprises a community of top-tier scholars and servant leaders. Each year, Clemson University recognizes the efforts of high-achieving faculty whose work advances society through the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and the College honors outstanding faculty, staff and students for excellence in research, teaching and service in support of building people and communities statewide and beyond.

University Research, Scholarship and Artistic Achievement Award

The University Research, Scholarship and Artistic Achievement Awards (URSAAA) were created in 2018 to recognize Clemson University faculty who have achieved rare career milestones, such as: receiving the highest level of national or international recognition in their field; authoring a paper that has received more than 1,000 citations; and expending more than $1 million on research in a fiscal year.

    Bob Powell, George B. Hartzog Jr. endowed professor, Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management

    URSAAA recognition as a recipient of the National Association for Interpretation’s highest honor, the Fellow Award. Powell was also a 2026 nominee for Senior Researcher of the Year.

    • Mark Small, professor and director of the Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life - Fulbright awards in 2004 as a traditional scholar in the Czech Republic; in 2006 as a senior specialist in the Czech Republic; from 2015-1017 as a core scholar in Albania; and publication exceeding 1,000 citations.

Clemson University Researcher of the Year

Clemson University Researcher of the Year awards are announced during the University's annual Research Symposium. The award recognizes the efforts of high-achieving faculty whose work advances society through the generation and dissemination of new knowledge. Colleges nominate one senior and one junior faculty member (within 10 years of their terminal degree), and an interdisciplinary committee reviews all nominations.

    Dr. Boccuto, a clinical geneticist and assistant professor in the School of Nursing, is the 2026 recipient of the Clemson University Division of Research Junior Researcher of the Year award.

  • Faculty Awards of Excellence Winners

    The College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences Awards of Excellence are given to faculty and/or full-time employees in recognition of exemplary contributions to the College and its mission. The objective of the awards is to encourage, recognize and reward faculty and/or classified employees for performance, achievements or technological accomplishments above those normally expected that contribute to the efficiency, improvement or economy of the College.
