Peer Observers

Are you looking for feedback on your teaching or need evidence of your teaching effectiveness for TPR? Look no further.

The Clemson Peer Observation Program is a faculty-driven initiative which certifies faculty observers who follow a developmental observational process to provide data and insight on teaching attributes, not discipline content. Below, each college has trained faculty who are willing to conduct an observation. Reach out to any observer to see if they have time to complete an observation for you, as observers volunteer their time in service to the Clemson academic community. We recommend that you check with your TPR committee to ensure they will accept a non-discipline observer if you wish to submit this as a piece of evidence. Other benefits include professional development and insights on your teaching.

Faculty participants praise program value

"This was an incredibly meaningful and helpful experience. My observers provided high-quality, appropriate feedback and ideas during the class observation and during our pre- and post-observation meetings. The delivery format is well thought-out and efficient. I highly recommend this experience for any of our teaching faculty."

The Clemson Peer Observation Program brings together the Provost's Office, the Office of Teaching Effectiveness and Innovation (OTEI), and the support of some colleges' community-based work. Through an evidence-based structured format, faculty access training materials, practice the observation process with mentors, and become certified as teaching observers.

This program is based on work created by the faculty of the Teaching Effectiveness Community of CBSHS, the College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences. OTEI supports formative review of teaching in the colleges and committees working on this process, and the Teaching Reflection and Review Guide provides additional information, including access to a Peer Observation of Teaching Canvas course, which any Clemson faculty member can review: further information on this program can be found here. Questions? Reach out to Dr. Becky Tugman, OTEI Senior Faculty Fellow at btugman@clemson.edu.
