Advisory Board

The Office of Faculty Advancement Advisory Committee (AC) is charged with working with the Faculty Advancement leadership team on the design and implementation of programming and practice aligned with the office’s established vision and mission. The committee will be consulted to review the office’s mission, vision and strategic goals as the landscape of higher education changes. The committee strives to give advice and recommendations to the leadership team and is expected to focus on matters that directly concern the activities of this office.

Specifically, this charge includes the following:

  • Advise on the establishment of the mission and vision of the office and how it aligns with those of peer institutions and the needs of the current Clemson faculty.
  • Provide counsel on the assessment of the Clemson faculty environment, proposed initiatives and programming implementation.
  • Provide guidance to the leadership team on opportunities for institutional collaboration that could improve faculty experience and identify potential external partners for relevant initiatives and programming. 
  • Provide guidance towards the creation of systems and practices that support a culture of equity, inclusion and wider belonging for faculty at Clemson University.
  • Support information sharing and related program implementation of Office activities.

Meetings

The committee will meet at least twice during the academic year. These meetings are tentatively expected to be held in September and February. When needed, the committee will be asked to attend no more than two additional meetings each academic year. Notice will be emailed to members no less than two weeks prior to a meeting by the office coordinator. Agendas will be provided one week prior to the meeting along with supporting documentation where needed for review. The AC will be asked to generate a brief list of key recommendations and agenda items that are to be emailed to the director within one week of the meeting.

Membership

The AC will be composed of individuals with diverse higher education experiences, backgrounds and skillsets.

  • Membership may vary between 10-14 members during any academic year.
  • Committee members will serve two-year terms which are renewable for one additional term. The current President of the Faculty Senate and a representative from the University Commissions will be automatic members of the AC.
  • The other members will consist of faculty and administrative staff at Clemson who have been nominated by office leadership, members of the AC or other CU stakeholders and then invited by the office director to serve a two-year term.

Invitations to this office will be made so that the AC can provide diverse perspectives relative to the myriads of issues impacting faculty advancement at Clemson.
