Clemson University recognizes significant contributions by faculty members through a variety of honors, awards and recognitions.

Spring University Awards

Every year the Office of the Provosts sponsors a special recognition event for several annual awards bestowed upon outstanding faculty, staff, and students.

Office of the Provost Awards

  • Ralph D. Elliott Endowed Award

    Ralph D. Elliott PlaqueThe purpose of this award is to recognize and honor a Clemson University faculty, staff, and/or administrator who has promoted initiatives in the field of credit or noncredit continuing education in a worthy and exemplary manner. The award will be presented to the recipient by the Provost on behalf of the President of Clemson University at the University Awards Ceremony in May. In addition to a cash stipend, the recipient’s name will be affixed to a permanently displayed plaque in the Clemson University Madren Center.

  • Thomas Green Clemson Award

    Thomas Green ClemsonThis award was established by the Office of the Provost in 1999 to honor outstanding faculty and staff who have made significant contributions to academic life at Clemson. Nominations are confidential, and nominees should not be apprised of their nomination. Priority will be given to nominees who have not previously received Clemson University-wide awards. The award includes $5,000 to be evenly divided between the recipient and the Clemson University Libraries. Recipients of the award also receive a plaque, and their names are added to the perpetual Thomas Green Clemson Award for Excellence plaque, which is on permanent display in the lobby of the R.M. Cooper Library. The monies donated to the Libraries will be used to purchase new materials to be added to the Libraries' collection, and these purchases will include a personalized donor plate honoring the award recipient.

  • Awards Program for Outstanding Teaching

    Provost Senior Outstanding Teacher Award
    An instructor who has seven or more years of experience in higher education teaching will be recognized as a senior award recipient if deemed by the review panel to have exhibited sustained, meritorious and exceptional teaching along with a demonstrated sharing of these attributes within the academic community outside of Clemson University.     Provost Junior Outstanding Teacher Award
    An instructor who has less than seven years of experience in higher education teaching will be recognized as a junior award recipient if deemed by the review panel to have exhibited sustained, meritorious and exceptional teaching. The Provost Junior Outstanding Teacher award recipient is not expected to demonstrate these attributes broadly within the academic community outside of Clemson University, and potential nominees can explore the complete explore the complete nominee requirements of the Provost Junior Outstanding Teacher Award.     Provost Outstanding Collaborative Teaching Award
    An instructor of any rank will be recognized for exhibiting sustained, meritorious and exceptional teaching and for having demonstrated remarkable success and ingenuity in a collaborative teaching modality which provides students a vital example of the value of leveraging multi-discipline partnerships. Explore the complete nominee requirements of the Provost Outstanding Collaborative Teaching Award. Winners of this award receive a one-time cash prize of $4,000 plus a certificate or plaque of merit. Collaborative teaching award winners will share the prize, which may be adjusted by and at the sole discretion of the provost depending on the team size. Access the application form.

    Provost Award for Outstanding Inclusive Teaching Practices
    An instructor will be recognized for exhibiting sustained, meritorious and exceptional teaching combining remarkable success and talent in effectively leveraging evidence-based teaching practices, instructional technology (including Canvas), cultural relevancy and inclusivity practices, and sound universal design for learning (UDL) or equivalent principles to teach to a broad and diverse profile of learners.     Provost Award for Outstanding Teaching with Technology
    An instructor will be recognized for exhibiting sustained, meritorious and exceptional teaching combined with a demonstrated excellence in utilizing University-supported technologies to design and teach fully online courses and/or hybrid courses.     University Marshal leading graduation procession
    The torch of the University Marshal is passed from college to college annually by the Office of the Provost. This honor is bestowed upon the senior-most tenured faculty member within the college with the role of leading graduates into Commencement and leading the procession of Convocation.
