About Us
The Organic Certification Program at Clemson University® has been accredited by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service as a National Organic Program certifying agent for crop production, livestock production, processing and handling, and wild-harvest crops since April 29, 2002. Clemson University® is an established Accredited Certified Association member committed to maintaining the integrity of the organic industry by providing impartial, third-party verification of compliance with USDA organic standards. Our program serves South Carolina’s agriculture by offering organic certification as a public service. The fee structure is designed to minimize financial barriers and encourage producers currently using organic or transitional practices to pursue USDA organic certification. By providing this service, Clemson University enhances regional support and understanding of organic certification in a growing sector of agriculture.
Obtaining organic certification is a critical step in advancing organic agriculture in South Carolina. It builds consumer confidence, opens new market opportunities, and grants certified operations the full benefits of the USDA organic seal.
