Tigers safeguard some of the world's most important forests, protect water sources and sustain the livelihoods and cultural heritage of millions of people.

Yet the species faces unprecedented pressures:

• 95% decline in wild tiger populations over the past century
• Three countries, Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Vietnam, have lost all their wild tigers
• Fewer than 5,000 wild tigers remain worldwide today
