Christine Cole has over 4 decades of experience in textiles at Clemson University. Having spent most of her career as a faculty member in the School of Textiles (later the Department of Materials Science and Engineering), Christine was also a major contributor to establishing Clemson Apparel Research, which is now known as Clemson Textiles.
As a professor, Christine spent most of her experience teaching undergraduate classes in textile product design, textile test methods and evaluation, and manufacturing processes. Her research has brought in over $54 million in externally funded projects over her career, with a major focus on chemical/biological protection.
Initially founded through Christine’s winning government grant proposal, Clemson Apparel Research (CAR) has become a renowned resource for high-performance textiles and innovation in this field. After transitioning from more production-based projects, CAR became Clemson Textiles in 2014, focusing on specialty fiber, fabric, and garment development and prototyping. Christine has been a leader and major contributor throughout the facility’s entire history.
Griffin Donley, Senior Researcher

Griffin Donley has several years of experience at Clemson Textiles, both as a student and as a full-time researcher. Griffin worked at the lab as an undergraduate student, where he began learning specialty fiber formation, dye chemistry, physical testing, and other textile processes. While a student, Griffin was elected President of Phi Psi Honors Fraternity at Clemson, a year during which the chapter planned and hosted the organization’s National Convention for several other universities.
After receiving his Master’s in Materials Science and Engineering, where he focused on bio-inspired fibers for high-impact applications, Griffin was offered an opportunity to rejoin Clemson Textiles as a full-time researcher. Now he continues his work managing all hands-on development work for a number of projects and utilizing the facility’s textile processing equipment.
Marcus Murdoch, Research Specialist

As a recent graduate of the Materials Science and Engineering program, Marcus’s time at Clemson Textiles began as a student, first to fulfill the undergraduate student research requirement, and later hired as a student researcher.
Nearing his graduation, Marcus was offered a full-time position with Clemson Textiles while he continues his academic journey by currently obtaining his graduate degree. Marcus works with Christine and Griffin, focusing mainly on fiber formation, small-scale dyeing, and physical testing.
