Advocacy and Success

About Us

The Office of Advocacy and Success (OAS) envisions a Clemson community where every student feels supported, valued, and equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to invest in their lifelong well-being, advancing the Division of Student Affairs commitment to delivering the No. 1 student experience. Through our programs and services, OAS empowers students to navigate personal and academic challenges by providing individualized support, connecting students to campus and community resources, and fostering holistic well-being. We promote student success through collaborative care, advocacy, and empowering practices that help students thrive at Clemson and beyond. In the event of an emergency or need for immediate assistance, call 911 or contact the Clemson University Public Safety Communication Center at 864-656-2222 for police, fire, and emergency medical services.

  • CARE Network

The CARE Network, coordinated by the Office of Advocacy and Success (OAS), supports students facing academic and personal challenges that may affect their success or well-being. Referrals to the CARE Network usually come from faculty, staff, family members, or peers who have concerns about a student. Common reasons for referral include academic stress, homesickness or adjustment difficulties, social or relationship challenges, grief or loss, financial hardship, emotional distress, or illness and injury.

CARE Case Managers provide individualized, non-clinical support by listening carefully to students, helping them recognize their needs and strengths, and connecting them with campus and community resources.

While OAS staff serve as the primary case managers, the CARE Network is also supported by professionals from the Dean of Students Office, Residential Living, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and various other academic and student affairs departments. Students may receive outreach from a range of University staff members on behalf of the CARE Network, including Community Directors, Residential Community Mentors, and academic advisors and coaches.

Visit www.clemson.edu/care-network to submit a referral.

  • Notification of Absence System

The Notification of Absence (NOA) system provides students with an easy way to inform their instructors about missed classes. When a student submits an NOA due to extenuating circumstances, such as physical or mental health concerns or the loss of a loved one, the Office of Advocacy and Success (OAS) responds with a supportive message, shares helpful resources, and, when appropriate, coordinates additional follow-up through the CARE Network.

  • Off-Campus Student Services
Off Campus Student Services supports Clemson students living off campus by providing resources, coaching, and guidance to help them successfully navigate independent living. We offer information about off-campus housing options, connect students to campus and community resources, and help students adjust to life off campus. Students can explore housing listings, tips, and community information at ClemsonOffCampus.com, a service provided by Apartments.com designed specifically for off-campus student living in the Clemson, Greenville, and Charleston areas.

Please note, our office does not intervene or mediate landlord-tenant disputes. For lease issues or conflicts with landlords, students are encouraged to contact tenant advocacy organizations or legal resources.
  • Dean On-Call (DOC) System
The Dean On-Call (DOC) program offers after-hours support for Clemson students facing emergencies. When alerted by university officials, such as University Police or Residential Living staff, the Dean On-Call responds promptly to ensure the student receives timely care and appropriate follow-up. As a key part of Clemson’s crisis response system, the DOC program is managed by the Office of Advocacy and Success (OAS) and is dedicated to supporting student safety and well-being outside of regular business hours.
  • Community Education

The Office of Advocacy and Success (OAS) is dedicated to building a caring, connected campus community where every student feels supported and valued. To help faculty, staff, and peers recognize when a student might need assistance, OAS offers educational presentations on recognizing individuals in distress, how to submit a CARE Network referral, when to involve emergency services, and how to share relevant campus resources.

OAS also actively participates in campus outreach events such as Computer Appreciation Day, Stress Less activities, and World Kindness Day, while promoting peer-to-peer support as a powerful tool for student well-being. Through our website and social media channels, OAS also shares valuable information about available student resources and how to access support.
