Philosophy and Religion

About Us

Welcome to the Department of Philosophy and Religion. We are located in 126D Hardin Hall. Although Hardin is the oldest academic building on Clemson's campus, a major restoration effort completed in 2002 has made it one of the most technologically advanced classroom buildings on campus. See our location on the campus map. The department currently consists of nineteen faculty members covering a range of specialties and over 80 students majoring in philosophy or religious studies. We offer undergraduate programs leading to the B.A. degree with four distinct areas of emphasis:

We also offer minors in Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Mid-Eastern Studies.

General inquiries can be directed to the Chair, Ben White.

We have regular departmental colloquia and sponsor various other events on campus. Check the front page of our site for upcoming talks. Recent speakers have included Anna Stilz (Princeton), Dan Wikler (Harvard), Tony Milligan (King's College, London), Graham Priest (CUNY), Jeff McMahan (Oxford), Susan Wolf (UNC), Douglas MacLean (UNC), Dan Haybron (St. Louis), C.D.C. Reeve (UNC), Iakovos Vasiliou (CUNY), Amelie Rorty (Tufts/Harvard), and Bernard Harcourt (Chicago).
