Closed or Restricted Courses
Every class at Clemson has a maximum enrollment limit. Once this limit is reached, the course is closed. If you need to enroll in a closed course or receive a registration error due to a restriction you do not meet, you may request an enrollment override. If granted, an override allows you to register for the course above capacity or despite the restriction.

Course Seat Request
The iROAR Course Seat Request tool is the University's official way for you to request a seat in a course that is at full capacity or if you have received a registration error. The tool allows departments to provide you with an override to register for the course when possible as well as gauge unmet course demand. If your enrollment override request can be fulfilled, you will receive an email when it has been completed. You may also review the status of your request on the Status Page of the Course Seat Request tool.
Request assistance with a closed or restricted course in iROAR 〉 Student Self-Service 〉 Student Registration 〉 Course Seat Request.
Please note:
- You may also see this tool as Request a Seat in a Closed Course. The names are interchangeable and the tool should be used to address any reason you can not enroll other than Holds, Legal Presence, etc. See Understand iROAR Registration Errors.
- Being granted an override or added to a section is at the discretion of the individual department. The academic department cannot guarantee your choice of section will be granted.
Course Section Waitlist
The waitlist option has been phased out and is unavailable beginning Spring 2026.
