Shamiul Alam
Shamiul Alam is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University. He earned his Ph.D. (2025) and M.S. (2023) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK), and his B.S. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2017. Before starting his Ph.D., Dr. Alam served as a Lecturer at the Military Institute of Science and Technology in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Dr. Alam's research focuses on emerging electronic devices, circuits, and architectures for future computing systems, targeting both room-temperature and extreme-environment applications. He has authored more than 40 publications in leading venues, including Nature Electronics, Applied Physics Reviews, Scientific Reports, Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Applied Physics, IEEE Electron Device Letters, IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology, and major conferences such as DAC, DATE, and DRC. In addition, he has co-authored a book with Springer Nature and holds multiple U.S. patent applications. Dr. Alam's publications have received special recognition, including a Featured Article in Applied Physics Reviews and an Editor’s Pick in Applied Physics Letters.
Dr. Alam's contributions have been recognized with several honors, including the Outstanding Graduate Research Award from both the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (2023) and the Tickle College of Engineering (2025) at UTK. He has also been awarded multiple competitive fellowships, such as the GATE Fellowship from the UT–Oak Ridge Innovation Institute, the Shipley Swann Graduate Fellowship, the Tennessee Top 100 Graduate Fellowship, and the DAC Young Fellowship.
