Registration Checklist

Clemson course registration—drop and add—takes place in the iROAR student system. Being familiar with the registration-related processes below may be helpful should you encounter any issues in iROAR. Specific course registration questions should be directed to the Registration Coordinator. Registration hold contacts are listed below.

• Registration PINs

  Registration PIN

  Meet with your advisor as early as possible to plan your schedule and receive your registration PIN—no other person is authorized to issue your PIN. Only undergraduate students are required to enter a PIN in order to register for classes. You will not be able to register in iROAR without your PIN. 

  You will be required to enter your PIN each time you access the iROAR registration page until a registration attempt has been made. Once a registration attempt has been made—even if the attempt is unsuccessful—you will no longer be required to enter your PIN.

  Registration Holds

  Holds on your account may prevent registration. Check for any registration holds in iROAR: Student Self-Service 〉 Student Records 〉 Student Advising Profile 〉 View Holds. To resolve holds, you must contact the department that issued the hold.

• Prerequisites

  Course Prerequisites

  Prerequisites are enforced. Make sure you meet the prerequisites for all your classes prior to registration. If you have questions about an iROAR prerequisite error, contact the Registration Coordinator for the course.

  What is a prerequisite?

  A prerequisite is either a course a student must successfully complete before registering for another course; or a test score (such as the Clemson Math Placement Test).

  How do I find out if a course has prerequisites?

  Check prerequisites in iROAR > Student Self-Service > Registration > Course Catalog. Select the appropriate term and course. Click the course title to view prerequisites.

• Credit Hours

  Credit Hours

  Allowable maximum credit hours are enforced in iROAR registration. Undergraduate credit hours are not increased above 19 under any circumstances until the day before classes begin. Likewise, advisor requests for additional credit hours (above 21) can not be made before that date.

  Undergraduate Fall and Spring Credit Hours

  Undergraduate students are initially limited to registration in 19 credit hours. The day before classes begin, credit hours are automatically increased to 21. Students who wish to register for more than 21 credits must have approval from their advisor. Advisors should email Registration Services—include student name and CUID (C12345678)—to have the 21 credit limit increased the day before classes begin. Increases above 24 credit hours require the approval of Sean Brittain, Dean of Undergraduate Studies.

  Students on academic probation are limited to registration of 16 credits or less. To have that limit raised, advisors should email Registration Services. Credit increase requests must include the student name and CUID (C12345678) number. Staff in Registration Services will increase the credits to a maximum of 19.

  Undergraduate Summer Credit Hours

  Undergraduate students may register for a total of 19 credits during summer sessions. Exceptions to these credit hour limits must be approved by the student's advisor. Advisors should email Registration Services with the student's name and CUID to have limits increased.

  Graduate Credit Hours

  Enrollment requirements for graduate students vary and may be found under the topic “Enrollment Limits” in the current GS Policies & Procedures Handbook. Graduate students may email the Graduate School to request the limit be increased.

• iROAR Registration Errors

  iROAR Errors

  Errors pop up in iROAR registration if you do not meet the requirements or restrictions set for a particular course. Most errors require an override from the Instructor or the Registration Coordinator for the course.

  Other iROAR errors may require action on your part:

  • Registration Hold — Check holds in iROAR
  • Student Attribute — Must be Honors, Athlete, etc...
  • Max Credits Exceeded — Contact advisor
  • Status Prevents Registration — Not active, see Former Students
  • Academic Standing — Probation or Suspension
  • Level Restriction — Not approved for graduate-level course

  Corequisite Error: Must also add the required corequisite at the same time in the worksheet, i.e., CH 1010 and CH 1011 (lecture and lab)

• Registration Overrides

  Registration Overrides

  If you require an override to enroll in a class, contact your Instructor or Registration Coordinator for that class.

  Check the error message that you have received. Overrides do not work if they aren't given for the specific error message received in iROAR. The following overrides correlate to specific registration errors:

  CLASS

  Course that is restricted by academic class (e.g., Senior).

  COLL

  Course that is restricted to a particular college (e.g., 4 Engineering and Science).

  COREQ

  Allows a student to add a course without the required corequisite component. Should only be given if the student has already completed one of the courses. Otherwise, to successfully add a corequisite, the course and the required corequisite m ust be added at the same time in the worksheet, i.e., CH 1010 and CH 1011 (lecture and lab)

  DEGR

  Course is restricted to a particular degree (e.g., BA, BS, MENGR, etc.)

  DEPT

  Course is restricted to a particular department (e.g., 1309 Economics).

  DUPL

  Allows a student to enroll in a duplicate course — a course with the same number in the same term (usually courses such as Creative Inquiry, Independent Study, etc.).

  FIELD

  A course is restricted to a specific field of study (major, minor, or concentration).

  PREREQ

  Student does not meet the prerequisite required.

  ATTR

  Course is restricted to a specific student attribute, usually Honors or Athlete. Typically, an ATTR override is not given and should never be given for an Honors attribute.

  PROG

  A course that is restricted to a specific academic program (e.g., BA-ENGL-2).

  REPC

  Repeat Course Error is generated for a class which a student has already received credit, are currently enrolled in, or are registered for in a future term. Also allows students to repeat a course for which they have already received the maximum credits allowed. (NOTE: STUDENTS CANNOT USE THESE CREDITS TOWARD GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.).

  Course requires special approval:

  TIME
