AI Governance
Clemson’s approach to AI governance is designed to support thoughtful, coordinated and responsible use of artificial intelligence across the institution. Governance helps ensure that AI-related decisions, projects and practices align with Clemson’s mission, values, policies and strategic priorities while creating a clear framework for oversight, collaboration and accountability.
AI Council
The Clemson AI Council is a cross-University group with representatives from across the institution that helps inform Clemson’s human-centered approach to artificial intelligence. As part of the University’s AI governance structure, the council supports collaboration, shared understanding and coordinated strategy by surfacing questions, identifying opportunities and helping guide AI-related engagement across Clemson.
AI CouncilAI Alignment Principles
Clemson's AI Alignment Principles provides a shared foundation for how the University evaluates opportunities, manages risk and supports innovation in ways that advance the University’s mission and values. These principles strengthen the student experience, support research growth, address community and workforce needs, and follow University requirements for ethics, privacy, security and compliance. They should also promote transparency, protect sensitive data and provide appropriate training and guidance. Whenever possible, AI efforts should be collaborative, scalable and coordinated across colleges and departments to reduce duplication, share resources and support a consistent approach to AI at Clemson.
