Adrienne Montare, FAIA, NOMA, LEED AP, is a lecturer at Clemson University’s Richard A. McMahan School of Architecture. She earned her Master of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin and has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. She is the former executive director of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the South Carolina Architectural Foundation. Prior to joining AIA South Carolina, Adrienne practiced for 25 years at award winning firms in South Carolina and New York. In 1997 after moving to Columbia, SC from New York City, she co-founded the Columbia Design League with her husband, Tom Savory, FAIA, a multi-design arts organization that promotes the critical importance of design excellence in American communities. Adrienne is the author of Artists as Architects: The Constructive Spirits of Louise Nevelson and Esphyr Slobodkina, an essay included in the catalogue for the 2025-2026 exhibition of Architects of Being: The Creative Lives of Louise Nevelson and Esphyr Slobodkina.
