Cloud and Software Services
The Cloud and Software Services (CSS) team is a new segment within Research Computing and Data Engagement (RCDE). The team’s goals include developing and maintaining RCD web services and workflow automation, as well as providing researchers access to and training on cloud environments. The team has extensive experience in developing, deploying, securing, and maintaining applications both in the cloud and on-premises environments. The team is knowledgeable in and makes extensive use of modern software development practices, including continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and containerization.
What We Do
The team is responsible for the development and maintenance of web applications such as RCD Documentation, RCD ColdFront, and other workflow automation and internal tooling.
The team also provides consultation and training on topics around containerization, cloud development, software development, version control, CI/CD pipelines and more.
Meet the CSS Director

Doug Dawson
Doug Dawson is the Director of Cloud and Software Services within Clemson’s Research Computing and Data Engagement group at CCIT. He started work at CCIT in 2017 on the Mobile Innovation Team, where he worked on my.Clemson and other mobile applications specializing in cloud-hosted backend services. He won the Thomas Green Clemson award for his work developing custom web applications and workflow automation used by the University to manage isolation, quarantine, and testing enforcement during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, he joined RCD to strengthen the team’s cloud and software development skills and portfolio.
