Elizabeth L'Arrivee

Elizabeth L’Arrivee, Ph.D., is a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Political Science and the CISC. Prior to joining Clemson University, she was a Lecturer in the Division of University Studies at Colgate University and a Visiting Fellow at the Alexander Hamilton Institute. L’Arrivee received a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Winnipeg and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame.

L’Arrivee’s research interests include the history of political philosophy, as well as historical and contemporary philosophic literature, music, and art. She has published on the writings of Plato and Mary Wollstonecraft, and her articles have appeared in The History of Political Thought and The European Legacy. L’Arrivee is currently completing a book manuscript that examines how the philosophic way of life in Plato’s Republic is a conversion experience that culminates in a new kind of education, which values freedom of thought rather than political indoctrination.
