Lisa Thomas-Smith holds a dual PhD in Philosophy and Cognitive Science. Her research focuses on moral psychology, specifically the psychological and sociological factors which can affect our ability to behave morally. She is currently writing about the limitations of empathy with regard to moral judgement, and the ways in which the cognitive necessity of categorization is in tension with the moral need for maximal inclusion within our cultural institutions. She has taught courses in ethics, critical thinking, philosophy and psychology, philosophy of race, philosophy of gender, and contemporary social problems.
