Raquel Anido (Ph.D., Johns Hopkins University) is an assistant professor of Spanish in the Department of Languages, where she teaches a wide array of courses encompassing the literature, cinema, and culture of Spain. She also teaches courses on world cinema and film documentary for Clemson's World Cinema program. She has received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2017), the Gentry Award for Excellence in the Humanities (2015), and the National Scholars' Award of Distinction for student mentorship (2012).

She holds a Licenciatura in Law (equivalent to the American JD) from the University of Barcelona. She spent a year on an Erasmus Scholarship at the University of Catania in Italy and studied Humanities at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. She was a fellow at both the School of Criticism and Theory at Cornell University and the Writing in the Americas Institute at Boston University.

Her scholarly interests include Cultural Studies, Women's Studies, and Human Rights. Those interests combine in her research on Spanish culture. She is the author of El pasado en solfa: La música literaria y fílmica de la España contemporánea (Barcelona: Anthropos, 2018), which examines popular music in the literature and cinema of Spain from the post-war years to the present. The book explores the themes of justice, memory, and freedom--or lack thereof--when confronting the pre-democratic past in Spanish history. Currently, she is also preparing an edited volume on literary representations of Spanish bars and tavernas from the Golden Age through Generation X.
