Dr. Sonia Maria Pavel received her Ph.D. in philosophy from MIT. Her research and teaching interests are primarily in the fields of social and political philosophy and ethics, with a focus on social ontology, education, ethics and public policy, and theories of justice. She has published on ideals of merit and meritocracy, education policy, and feminist metaphysics. Her work seeks to bring philosophical thinking, coupled with social scientific research, to bear on our lives. At MIT, she directed a program focused on fostering ethical agency in the fields of science and technology. She is currently working on her book project, based on her dissertation, which proposes a systematic political philosophy of education.
