Katharine Boult is an M.A. student in the Department of History at Clemson University. She holds a B.A. in History from Sewanee: The University of the South, where she graduated with distinction on her senior thesis examining women’s medicine in early modern Italy. At Clemson, she serves as a teaching assistant while pursuing research on the intersections of gender, medicine, and knowledge in the early modern British Isles. Her work investigates how developments in early modern medical practice affected women’s roles as healers and midwives, considering whether these transformations marginalized women or enabled them to sustain meaningful spaces of authority in reproductive and healing knowledge.
