Emily Schaad is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Activities at Clemson University, and conductor of Concertato and Sinfonia orchestras at South Carolina Governor’s School for Arts and Humanities. She has served as conductor with Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestras, Greenville County Youth Orchestras, and Stringendo, Inc. She has taught elementary, middle, and high school strings and is active as a clinician, guest conductor, orchestra education consultant, and old-time fiddler. Schaad holds a BM in Viola from Curtis Institute of music, an MA in Appalachian Studies from Appalachian State, and a DMA in Music Education at Boston University, and has studied conducting with Donald Portnoy, David Rudge, Paul Vermel, and Achim Holub.
