Our minors offer students pursuing any degree the opportunity to study the world's great literature and master their writing skills. The Department of English currently offers minors in British and Irish studies, creative writing, English, great works, professional writing, and race, ethnicity and migration.

Immerse yourself in the literature and histories of the British Isles, with courses focused on the writings of Shakespeare, Chaucer, Milton and more.
Creative Writing Minor
Hone your ability to tell a compelling story or craft poetry. The creative writing minor allows students to focus on one of four tracks: fiction, poetry, screenwriting or playwriting.
English Minor
The English minor allows you to explore a wide range of courses in writing and literature. The minor begins with "Critical Writing About Literature" (ENGL 3100) followed by three credits of British literature, three credits of American literature and six credits of elective English courses above the sophomore level.
NOTE: This minor is not open to English majors or Secondary Education - English Teaching Area majors.
Great Works Minor
Understand the works that have shaped civilization, from the ancient Greek classics to Enlightenment philosophers and beyond. The great works minor allows you to study pivotal ideas in literature, philosophy, religion, art and science.
Professional Writing Minor
Become a master of the written word. The professional writing minor offers courses that include business writing, technical writing, literary criticism, journalism, writing for electronic media, literary editing and more.
Race, Ethnicity and Migration Minor
Study the ways that people's movements and identities have shaped our world. The minor requires three credits in literature and the arts, three credits on society, three credits on history and geography and six elective credits from any course in the minor.
