Tigers Make Life-Changing Impact

Each of us pursues significance in our own way at Clemson — through relationships, academics, athletics and service.

For Matthew Vlacich ’25, a mathematical sciences major from Long Island, New York, that looked like serving his fellow students through Freshman Council his first year, receiving mentorship through the program, and then directing the program as an upperclassman.

“I think Freshman Council is ultimately the reason I love Clemson so much because I learned all about the history of it, about the traditions and about the people. Once you have that understanding, it makes all the experiences on campus so much more worthwhile.

Being able to serve Clemson (through Freshman Council) has taught me a lot about myself in the service I want to give wherever I end up and the type of leader I am. I’m also excited to look back in three or four years and see how the freshmen I’m leading now are making their own impact. Where they are today is where I started, too, and it will be mind-blowing to see them continue the cycle of serving freshmen on campus.”

We Are United Through Time-Honored Traditions

Our campus and our culture are steeped in history. We follow in the footsteps of Tigers who came before us, working hard and celebrating big — in Death Valley, on Bowman Field, inside Cooper Library and, sometimes, even on the dance floor.

"Seeing all the Clemson alum come in for game days is such a surreal experience. One of my good friends has been tailgating here for years, and his family invited us to their tailgate every home game day. Seeing their hospitality was a true definition of the Clemson Family.”

“When I interviewed (with Milliman) for an internship in New York City last summer, one of the two people I met was a Clemson alum. I’m not speculating if that helped me land the role or not, but I really do think that every little bit helps. Clemson alumni look out for other Clemson students, and in the actuarial field, it’s great having those connections to reach out to.”
