Sociology B.A. / B.S. / Minor

Sociology students study social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. A Sociology degree prepares students for a variety of professional careers related to social research, public policy, human resources, management, public relations, social services, criminal justice, health services, and other people-oriented positions in the public and private sectors.

The Department offers a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology in three concentration areas: general sociology, community studies, and social service. A sociology minor is also an excellent choice for any student who desires to develop a nuanced understanding of human behavior and the social world.

Anthropology B.A. / B.S. / Minor

Anthropology is the empirical study of humanity. Students study the evolutionary origin of humans, the distinctiveness of our species, and the extraordinary diversity of cultures around the world and throughout time.

The Anthropology Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree programs prepare students for a variety of professional careers related to human resources, international business, public relations, museum and park service interpretation, health services, and other people-oriented positions in the public and private sector. In addition, the degree provides excellent preparation for graduate training in anthropology, law, health care, and business. An anthropology minor can serve to provide a globalized perspective for other majors like marketing, management, industrial engineering, agriculture, nursing, health sciences, and PRTM.

Criminal Justice B.A. / B.S. / Minor

Criminal Justice students study the three main elements of the justice system: the courts, policing, and corrections. Students develop their research methods skills for analyzing data, evaluating criminological theory, and opportunities to apply concepts to real world problems and issues.

The Criminal Justice Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree programs prepare students for a variety of professions related to law enforcement, social services, and criminal investigation. The degree also provides a great foundation for graduate education in criminology and public policy. A criminal justice minor is an excellent choice for any student who desires to develop a nuanced understanding of the criminal justice system.

Social Sciences M.S.

The Department offers a Master of Science in Social Science degree. This outstanding graduate program provides a solid foundation in social science research methods. It emphasizes practical and theoretical knowledge in the areas of sociology, anthropology and criminal justice, and focuses on the acquisition of social science research skills, theory application and field experience.

Business Anthropology & Human Behavior Certificate

Successful businesses don’t just rely on big data—they seek out human insights in areas such as consumer behavior, user experience and organizational culture. This three course Business Anthropology & Human Behavior Certificate Program expands the opportunities available to both industry professionals and students by offering cross-disciplinary training in business and social science research methods. The program combines cross-cultural anthropological knowledge and qualitative methods with foundational business concepts to produce globally informed business leaders and cultural researchers.
