Experiential Consulting
A career in consulting typically requires years of education and additional experience before working with a company. The Experiential Consulting Creative Inquiry project, mentored by Dirk Roskam in the Department of Management, offers undergraduate students the chance to be mentored by experts at consulting firms across the country while working as consultants for local businesses. Students in this project are strategically divided into four groups. Each of the groups is assigned to a mentoring consulting firm. Mentors from professional consulting firms such as Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Grant Thornton and Thought Logic guide the teams of students throughout the project.

Under the mentorship of these professionals, each team assesses business problems and advises real clients. Ben Dority, a senior marketing and management doublemajor, is part of the team of students mentored by Deloitte. This team is working closely with the Shepherd Hotel in Clemson on developing a growth strategy for the company. “We’re getting to have real world responsibility,” Dority said.
Matthew Koshy, Economics ‘23, also worked with Deloitte when he was in the Creative Inquiry project. “I think the best part about being in the program is the mentorship,” Koshy emphasized. From his Creative Inquiry experience, Koshy now holds a position at PricewaterhouseCoopers, a job his mentor at the company recommended him for based on his performance in the Experiential Consulting Creative Inquiry project.
Participation in the Creative Inquiry project provides students with a competitive advantage when it comes to applying for future jobs, as well as gaining hands on experience that others may have to wait years to acquire. Even after their involvement in the Experiential Consulting Creative Inquiry project, and graduation from Clemson, students continue to reap the benefits of their participation in the program. These students are set up to excel in careers in consulting as well as others. They represent a pool of applicants possessing hands-on experience and skills that employers are seeking in today’s workforce.
