ProfileTeaching Philosophy: Throughout my nursing career the teaching model that I've adopted a quote from Florence Nightingale," Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter's or sculptor's work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God's spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts: I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts." Professional organizations: It is so important to engage with one's professional colleagues. I have encouraged my students to participate in the professional organization, such as Sigma Theta Tau International Gamma Mu chapter at Clemson. Community service: I participated in health fairs such as the one in Anderson, SC. This has supported our community members in prevention activities so important to maintaining their health. Monthly I sing at the skilled nursing facility with fellow church members. We go to Lila Doyle Skilled Nursing Facility. The contribution we make to the residents brings an uplifting of their spirits and ours, as well. The art of sewing: I have made women's clothes for my friends. I enjoy crewel embroidery and have fashioned children's alphabet quilts. | |
