Profile

Dr. Heide Temples, PhD, APRN, PPCNP-BC IBCLC, is a Professor and Coordinator of the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at Clemson University, School of Nursing. She holds a PhD in Healthcare Genetics from Clemson University, School of Nursing, an MSN, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of Texas at Arlington, and BSN in Nursing from Michigan State University. She completed a fellowship at the Summer Genetics Institute (SGI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She is a tenured Professor and teaches pediatrics to graduate students in the Pediatric and Family Nurse Practitioner Programs at Clemson University. She has been an actively practicing Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner with over 30 years of clinical experience and is an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. Dr. Temples is researching human milk's epigenetic influence on the growth, development, and risk of developing obesity, and type-2 diabetes in twin children with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia. She also performed research to understand the mother's experience with drug dependence while pregnant and raising a family through qualitative storytelling to inform service delivery to affected families. Dr. Temples is past president of the Gamma Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society and is an active member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), International Society of Nurses in Genetics (ISONG), International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA), Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the Association of Faculties of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (AFPNP), and the International Society of the Developmental Origins of Health, and Disease (DOHaD). She has authored numerous scholarly publications and presented papers and posters at professional state, regional, national, and international conferences and meetings.
