Profile

Dr. Jasmine Townsend is an Associate Professor in Recreational Therapy within the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management at Clemson University. She is the Program Coordinator for the Recreational Therapy concentration, director of the Clemson Adaptive Sports and Recreation Lab, and Chair of the Clemson University Athletic Council. Her primary research area focuses on the outcomes of participation in recreational therapy and the transformative nature of adaptive sports. Her research interests also include investigating the outcomes of participation in recreation for families of all types, including those with members with disabilities. Dr. Townsend's practical experience includes working in community adaptive sports and therapeutic recreation programs as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and Certified Adaptive Recreation and Sport Specialist, as well as in wilderness and residential behavioral treatment programs for adolescents with behavioral and mental health conditions.

Adaptive sport and recreation, military families, injured military service members, family leisure and family well-being (family functioning, family communication, satisfaction with family life and leisure), outcomes of recreational therapy and mechanisms that produce those outcomes
