Educational BackgroundPh.D. Anthropology | ProfileMy research focuses on the ways in which societies organize around the making and exchange of objects. I am particularly interested in deciphering how materials both instantiate and change social identities. At root, my work draws on materials science techniques, pottery analysis, and anthropological theory to reconstruct the ancient potting networks through which Indigenous societies transmitted bodily and esoteric knowledge. By applying this approach to case studies across much of the southeastern United States, my work has made substantive contributions to the anthropology of social organization, kinship, and personhood. |
